The closed Tama packing plant could be re-opened, under a proposal by the Iowa Quality Beef Supply Network. Matt LaCasse reports the offer of two-point-six million dollars includes 110 acres of ground near the plant. The purchase of the bare ground will depend on financing, according to state economic-development officials. If the Tama city council accepts the offer, the IQBSN will pay the town of Tama 100-thousand dollars up front and the remaining two and-a-half million dollars on August 15th. The plant closed last August, idling more than 200 workers. Tama Beef first tried for a Chapter Eleven bankruptcy, but had to take Chapter Seven and liquidate.
