Six northwestern Iowa counties are hosting events today as part of the 8th annual “Wings and Wetlands Weekend.” Miriam Patton is a naturalist for the Palo Alto County Conservation Board. She’s helping coordinate a variety of programs that revolve around bird watching and nature appreciation.In addition to the bird and nature hikes, Patton says people will get the chance to be nearby for bird banding and bird releases too. Several trumpeter swans will be released. Patton says the events coincide with today being International Migratory Bird Day. She hopes people will come out to learn more about “what’s in their back yards” and the beauty of nature in northwest Iowa. She says you can see a live bald eagle, kayak and see an insect zoo. Events are underway today and tomorrow in: Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, O’Brien and Palo Alto counties. For more information, call (712) 837-4866.
