A day has been set aside to honor a Nobel Prize winner from the Hawkeye Governor Vilsack today signed a bill proclaiming October 16th as “Dr. Norman Borlaug World Food Prize Day.” The day will honor the Cresco, Iowa native who was called the “Father of the Green Revolution.” That so-called revolution doubled food production in the third world. It will also recognize the Iowa-based World Food Prize — which is given annually to someone who helps alleviate hunger in the world. Borlaug won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize, the first time that award went to someone involved in food production.
