After an early exit from last weekend’s Big Ten Tournament the Iowa softball team was unsure of its status for the N-C-A-A regionals. Not only did the Hawkeyes get in, but they will host a regional this week.Iowa coach Gayle Blevins says playing the host is even more of a benefit this season, as it will give her team an extra day to finish their final exams.Blevins says while the program has been successful the past few seasons, the biggest plus in the selection process was the Hawkeye’s difficult non-conference schedule. Blevins says their overall record was big, and taking on tough teams early is important. Iowa will open the regional against Notre Dame, a team that played in Iowa last year.
