A ceremony this morning on the statehouse grounds capped Peace Officer Memorial Week. State officials and local cops gathered to pay tribute.Iowa Department of Public Safety director Kevin Techau spoke. He says it’s a time for the public and law officers to reflect. Techau says officers of the law make daily sacrifices and need the public’s support.Techau says Iowa’s fortune in that not a single cop was killed last year, but 127 Iowa police officers have been killed in the line of duty since Iowa became a state. Governor Vilsack placed a wreath near the stone marker on the state capitol grounds which honors fallen peace officers.
