An eastern Iowa town known for its sour kraut and German heritage is hosting the “Taste Louisiana Cajun Fest” this holiday weekend. Event producer Sharon Widmer says the fifth annual celebration in Amana focuses on Cajun food and Cajun music. The festival focuses on two things, food and music. As for the food, Widmer says it’s all fresh ingredients made by authentic Cajun chefs.More than a ton of fresh crawfish will be trucked up from Louisiana for specialties like gumbo and jumbalaya along with alligator, blackened chicken and other traditional foods. Widmer says the tunes are also being imported from down South. There’s a Cajun comedy show, a Mardi Gras costume party, dance lessons and other entertainment today through Monday.
