Republican legislators say state workers are using their work phones and their state computers to complain about impending budget cuts. House Republican Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City. Says his phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from state employees. Rants says it isn’t right for state workers to be making such calls on the job. State law bans state employees from engaging in “partisan political activity” at work, but it also specifies that workers may complain about their wages and the condition of their employment. House Democrat Leader Dick Myers of Iowa City says state workers have done nothing wrong as we still have free speech in this country. Myers and Rants made their comments on Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” program.
