The new Waterloo Black Hawks head coach and general manager arrived in town to meet the media Wednesday. P.K. O’Handley has previous USHL experience as he was the head coach at North Iowa for seven years when that franchise was located in Mason City. He’s been an assistant for the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League for the past four years. O’Handley outlined his coaching philosophy today. He says he’s a driven guy, but an honest guy and the players know what to expect from him.The Black Hawks didn’t renew the contract of previous head coach Mark Koberinski after he compiled a 74-93-8 in three years. Does O’Handley feel an urgency to win right away? He says there is an urgency to win, but there’s also a realization that he needs to be patient as the team goes through growing pains. The Black Hawks are hoping O’Handley can turn the franchise around after just one winning season in the last eight years.
