Whether it’s biking, hiking or just walking the dog, Iowans are encouraged to get out and hit the trail today as part of National Trails Day. Lisa Hein, spokeswoman for the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, says this year’s theme is “Trails for Health.”The C-D-C wants people to exercise 30-minutes a day and about 80-percent of the population does not meet the goal. Hein says Iowans have plenty of fine trails at their disposal.Hein says Iowa ranks fourth in the nation for the number of trails converted from railroads.Iowa has about 800 miles of multi-use trails, and that’s not even including some that are in state and county parks. More than a dozen Iowa trails are holding special events today. Surf the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation website for details at “www.inhf.org”. Some locations include: Spirit Lake, Council Bluffs, West Des Moines, Jasper County, Story County, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty, Davenport and Washington County.
