The organization charged with maintaining the environmental standing of the Loess Hills in western Iowa is facing extinction after losing its state funding. Maury Welte is the director of the Woodbury County Loess Hills Alliance.He says they’re going to have to consider closing their main office in Council Bluffs. The Alliance has been working with farmers in the area that stretches from Plymouth to Pottawattamie County to get them to keep from developing or farming certain areas. Welte says things could shut down July 1st when the new budget year starts.Welte doesn’t know what will happen to the area if the Alliance shuts down. He says they’ll be set back to where they started from if they close the doors.Welte says the organization asked for 400-thousand dollars, was given 100-thousand, and then saw that cut to nothing.
