A man accused of shooting his father to death late last night in Council Bluffs is jailed in Nebraska. Pottawattamie County Chief Deputy Jim Matthai says a call came in minutes after midnight this morning and officers went to a home on the southeast side of Council Bluffs where Jeff Wheeldon, Senior, was found lying on the floor. Matthai says Wheeldon died at the scene from a gunshot wound. The deputies think he was shot by his son, Jeff Wheeldon, Junior, who then went to his grandmother’s room and didn’t shoot her but hit her with the gun. Wheeldon fled west, and as he drove Interstate-80 through Nebraska, he called relatives on a cellphone. Someone notified the law-enforcement dispatch center, and word was passed on to the Nebraska State Patrol, which caught up with him. Wheeldon was arrested and taken to the jail in Seward County, Nebraska, west of Lincoln.Warrants have been issued for first-degree murder and attempted murder. Investigators are still gathering details of what led up to the incident.
