It was a short-lived jail escape for the Minneapolis man with Iowa ties who is accused of kidnapping a Nebraska girl last spring. After a recent court appearance, 30-year-old Tony Zappa took off while being escorted back to jail. Zappa was wearing leg restraints and handcuffs at the time and the “Omaha World-Herald” says the escape lasted about 60 seconds. Jury selection in Zappa’s trial is set to begin tomorrow. He allegedly kidnapped a 16-year-old girl from a Nebraska mall last April. He surrendered about a week later when police surrounded his Montana cabin hideout. Zappa also faces charges in a half-dozen other states, including Iowa, where his run from the law began after a shootout with Floyd County deputies.
