Greg Ganske of Des Moines won the right to be the republican to face incumbent Democrat U-S Senator Tom Harkin in November. Ganske got 59 percent of the vote; Bill Salier of Nora Springs got 41 percent. Ganske said it was time to toss out Harkin’s “tired old politics of division.” Salier said last night’s defeat wasn’t a stumbling block, but a stepping-stone in the culture war. Salier said he’ll continue to be focused on defeating Tom Harkin, but he stopped short of saying he’d endorse Ganske.
