Turnout in yesterday’s election ranged from heavy in some western Iowa counties to extremely light in eastern Iowa where rain caused flooding. Linn County Auditor Linda Langenberg says voting was a challenge in the Cedar Rapids area due to flooding, and extreme humidity caused problems with some ballots. The ballots were jamming in the reader machines, and they determined the ballots had swelled due to the humidity.Dubuque County Auditor Denise Dolan says it was a difficult day as they started the day with the possibility of moving a city of Dubuque site. That site was okay, but they did have to move a site in the city of Dyersville.Many heavily republican precincts saw high turnout due to the three-way race for the G-O-P’s gubernatorial nomination, but there was no statewide democrat primary, and democrat areas saw low turnout. Turn-out in Sioux City and the surrounding area was disappointing according to Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill says only 12 percent of voters cast ballots yesterday.He says they had some tight races locally and hoped for a better turnout.Almost 200-thousand republican voters cast ballots yesterday.
