The Waterloo Bucks of the Northwoods Baseball League will begin their 8th season this Friday. The Northwoods League is a summer collegiate league comprised of some of the top college players from across the nation. Bucks general manager Gary Rima says this an exciting time of year after all the preparations leading up to the season.Waterloo has ranked first or second in attendance in the Northwoods League over the last seven seasons. Last year, the Bucks led the entire nation in total attendance during the 2001 collegiate baseball season, drawing over 62,000 fans. Rima is appreciative of the Bucks fans as he says the schedule requires fans to come out two or three nights in a row to keep the attendance that high.Darrel Handlesman will be entering his fourth season as the Bucks manager. Handlesman says the Bucks have high aspirations. He says nothing less than a championship would satisfy him. The Bucks open their season Friday against Rochester at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.
