Doug Gross, the republican candidate for Governor, says his running mate won’t be just “window dressing.” Candidates for Governor choose a Lieutenant Governor “running mate” in the same way the President chooses a Vice President, and picking a political partner will be one of Gross’ first acts as the G-O-P nominee. In a shot at Governor Tom Vilsack’s Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson, Gross says the state doesn’t have enough resources to have a highly-paid Lieutenant Governor who acts as a “co-Governor” and makes appearances at events.Gross says his Lieutenant Governor will be capable of running a state agency or a significant state program. Gross says he doesn’t have a narrowed-down list of potential candidates yet.Gross made his comments on an Iowa Public Television program that airs at 6:30 tonight.
