The director of the Drug Enforcement Agency says the nation’s war on terrorism won’t supercede the war on drugs.D-E-A director Asa Hutchinson says there’s a direct connection between the drug trade and terrorism. Hutchinson was in Des Moines today to talk with officials about Iowa’s continuing problem with meth. Last week, the F-B-I announced four hundred agents would be re-assigned from drug enforcement duties to counter-terrorism. Hutchinson says that means the D-E-A will step up its efforts. He says they understand the connection between drugs and terrorists. Hutchinson’s agency recently bought time on t-v networks for an advertisement which said those who buy illegal drugs are supporting terrorists. Hutchinson was joined at today’s news conference by both of Iowa’s U-S Senators and two Congressmen.
