Opening statements begin this morning in the trial of a Minnesota man accused in a Nebraska kidnapping. Thirty-year-old Tony Zappa, also known as Anthony Wright, of Minneapolis is accused of abducting 17-year-old Anne Sluti from a mall parking lot in Kearney, Nebraska last April. Prosecutors say Sluti was physically and sexually assaulted before Zappa was tracked to a Montana cabin and he gave up. The kidnapping followed a cross-country chase that started with a shoot-out in Floyd County, Iowa, and continued with Zappa eluding authorities in Minnesota, Colorado and Louisiana. If Zappa is found guilty for the kidnapping, he’ll likely serve his prison time in Minnesota, as that was one of his requests upon his surrender.
