The second day of testimony in Anthony Zappa’s case almost didn’t get underway. The man also known as Anthony Stephen Wright is accused of shooting his way out of a confrontation with Iowa officers, stealing a car in Louisiana and kidnapping a Nebraska 17-year-old before authorities surrounded him in Montana last year. This morning the judge heard an argument that one jury member may have told her sister about the trial and her opinions on the case. Zappa was taken from the courtroom before proceedings started, after observers say he began shouting, declared everyone in Nebraska was prejudiced, and called Judge Warren Urbom “Captain Kangaroo.” The defendant also shouted several times during pre-trial hearings last week, and though he’ll have access to a video link and be able to talk with his lawyers, he may not be back in the courtroom.
