The Girls’ State Soccer Tournament begins this afternoon in Muscatine. Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union spokesman Jason Elsinger says the Class 2A tournament features lots of experience.Dubuque Wahlert, Bettendorf and West Des Moines Valley have been to three out of the four tourneys thus far, and Bettendorf and Valley are back this year ranked number one and two. This is the first year there’s a separate Class 1A tournament for smaller schools. He says all four teams have a shot with Gilbert, the preseason number one, facing Davenport Assumption in the first game. He says the other two 1A teams are also tough.Waukee faces Dallas-Center Grimes in the other matchup. The date of the tournament was move this year so it didn’t compete with club team tournaments. Elsinger says that should resolve the problem of girls having to choose which tournament to play in.First round matches in class 2A begin this afternoon, with semifinal games in class 1A tonight.
