What was once the only certified marathon in the state of Iowa begins its seventh year tomorrow morning. Spokesperson Donna Johnston says the “Marathon to Marathon” in northwest Iowa begins with the runners meeting at the starting point tonight.Marathon has no hotels or motels, so runners meet tonight in Storm Lake and pick up their race packets and then have a dinner. The marathoners head for the aptly named town early tomorrow as they leave for Marathon at six a-m from Storm Lake High School. The elite runners arrive around 8:30. Johnston says they continue to draw participants from all over the U-S.They have runners signed up from 34 states, as many are trying to meet the requirement of running in all 50 states. She says Marathon used to have the only certified marathon in the state, but two other cities in Iowa now have one. She says the marathon raises enough money to cover costs and the rest goes back into the community.Johnston says they have a lot of people who sign up the day of the event.
