The republican who hopes to defeat democrat Attorney General Tom Miller in November is criticizing the way Miller’s office handled a high-profile case. David Millage, a lawyer who’s also a legislator from Bettendorf, says the state never should have lost the case the race track/casinos filed over taxes. The tracks won their legal argument that it’s unfair to tax them more than the riverboat casinos.Millage says the Attorney General’s office blew an “open and shut case” and the incident raises questions about Miller’s competence as the state’s top lawyer. Deputy Attorney General Julie Pottorff says Millage’s criticism is unfair.Pottorff says the case was handled appropriately.
