The federal government is sending five million dollars to Iowa’s Office of Drug Control and Policy. Spokesman Dale Woolery says the money will be spread across Iowa.Fifty-nine agencies will receive grants, many are sheriff’s departments and police departments working on drug task forces to combat drugs. The funds also go to treatment and prevention programs. Woolery says the awarding of the funds depends on a program’s success. One drug still gets the most attention — meth is still the primary focus of many of the programs. Woolery says it’s a matter of directing the money to the biggest problem areas. The state will actually get the money July 1st, the start of the new state fiscal year.
