Iowa will use federal money to help laid off WorldCom workers in Iowa find another job, or get advanced training. Governor Tom Vilsack says those employees will be able to enroll in the state’s relatively new “Iowa Advantage” program.Vilsack says WorldCom workers can go into their local Workforce Development office and a state counselor will help that individual come up with a plan to land a new job. He says they’ve used the program successfully in Cedar Rapids earlier this year when they had big layoffs.The state’s getting 82-million dollars from the feds for a variety of workforce initiatives like tuition assistance or customized job placement services.
