A Manchester woman aims to aid American troops stationed at “hardship bases” overseas, in places like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Kosovo, Bosnia, and Uzbekistan. Janet Leonard has set up a booth at the sesquicentennial celebration in Earlville, to collect donations by local residents in a program sponsored by the Red Cross. They’re asking for things like sunglasses, chapstick, soap, candy and anything that can be shipped without breaking. Operation “Support Our Troops” is sponsored by the American Red Cross. Leonard says she’s also selling patriotic items and art prints from her booth, which she first put up on the Fourth of July. On July 6 for the town’s sesquicentennial parade she’ll have a booth near the fire station. Donated items for the “Support Our Troops” program will be taken to the Cedar Rapids Red Cross office to be shipped to the troops later this month.
