A Fayette County man’s donated half a million dollars for a Wellness Center for kids in the Valley of Elgin school district. Lowell Lyngaas is proposing to build a one-point-three million-dollar facility in northeast Fayette County. For the past four years, Lyngaas has helped organize a special “Race America” event, a long-distance run across the United States. To help pay for the wellness center project, Lyngaas is giving several parcels of farmland to be sold by the “Race America” foundation. No location’s been chosen yet for the project, but organizers say they hope to build it in a four-mile area between Elgin and Claremont. Fundraising’s to begin this fall and they want to break ground no later than 2004.
