A Muscatine County town has lost a pair of policemen. Two of the five police officers in the eastern Iowa city of Wilton are out of work….accused of taking excessively long lunch breaks. Police Chief Steven Mallinger says rookie officer Pam Smith and her training officer, Sgt. David Roberts Jr., spent lots of time at either a local restaurant or Roberts’ home. He says their breaks lasted up to five hours. When they’re not patrolling, Wilton officers are supposed to stay at the city hall, which also serves as the police station. Roberts resigned following a closed session with the city council. Smith was fired after confronting city officials at the same meeting.
