Iowa State University is looking for women volunteers for a medical study involving an alternative to hormone replacement therapy. I-S-U project manager Oksana Matvienko explains they need early post-menapausal women who had their last menstrual cycle within the last 15 months to five years. They should be in good health and not have osteoporosis. Matvienko says some of the test subjects will be given a drug that acts like estrogen but it’s derived from soybeans.This week, another study of hormone replacement therapy using estrogen and progestin was halted due to the experts saying a higher-than-expected risk of cancer, heart attacks and strokes. That study was being done, in part, by the University of Iowa and involved 11-hundred Iowa women.
