That long bicycle ride across Iowa can be grueling. For adventurers who want to float their boat and only spend a weekend instead, “Canoe Van Buren” is underway today and tomorrow. Stacey Glandon is organizing the trip down the scenic Des Moines River in southeastern Iowa.Glandon, executive director of the Villages of Van Buren County, says today’s leg of the trip goes for about 23 river miles, while tomorrow’s leg covers 19 river miles.Towns visited along the way include Selma, Douds, Keosauqua, Bentonsport, Bonaparte and Farmington. Glandon is expecting dozens of canoers and kayakers to take part in the third annual trip. She says over 70 people are pre-registered and usually they have even more that walk up.For more information, call 800-TOUR-VBC or surf to “www.800-tourvbc.com”.
