Des Moines cops have issued an arrest warrant for a 20-year-old man suspected of driving the car that killed a three-year-old girl and severely injured her mother last night in a hit-and-run. Dante Iverson, who goes by the name Dante Ivy, is charged with two counts of failure to render aid and assistance at the scene of an accident — the formal charges in Iowa for a hit-and-run. The mother and child were crossing a busy, four-lane road last night. Two other cars stopped at the intersection, but witnesses say Iverson sped through and struck the mother and daughter.Des Moines Police Sergeant Bruce Elrod says after the impact, Iverson carried the three-year-old girl on the roof of his car for about 300 feet before she fell to the pavement — and Iverson kept going. Elrod says “heartless” seems too mild a word to describe Iverson’s actions. The suspect lived with a girlfriend in Des Moines, and cops believe he may be on the run with that girlfriend. Elrod says investigators have heard rumors the two are on their way out-of-state. Elrod says the car that crashed into the mother and daughter was found along a city street, and he says there’s no question it was the care involved in the accident. Elrod says the car belongs to another girlfriend of Iverson’s. Elrod says Iverson doesn’t have a long criminal record in Des Moines.Des Moines cops have arrested Iverson for carrying a concealed weapon, for criminal mischief and once for carrying an open container of alcohol. The name on the suspect’s birth certificate is Dante Iverson, but he was issued a Missouri drivers license under the name Dante Ivy. That license was suspended a few years ago, and Elrod says he never got one in Iowa, so he was driving last night without a license. Twenty-six-year-old Phuong Nguyen (fong Win) remains in the hospital with critical but not life-threatening injuries. Three-year-old Teresa Nguyen (win) was pronounced dead at about eight o’clock this morning.
