A former Davenport cop who says he was forced into disability retirement has settled a suit with the city, but he didn’t get much money. Chad Langager, a 20-year veteran, had asked for 400 grand in a federal suit. He claimed he was forced to retire after being suspended for wrecking a city-owned vehicle. He settled for $10,000 plus court costs and attorney fees. Langager was assigned to the Quad-Cities Federal Gang Task Force as a supervisor in April of 2000 when he crashed a city car into a guard rail. Even though Langager was not given a breath test, officers who responded to his accident say he was impaired by alcohol. The department busted Langager back to patrol officer after his suspension. But he told his supervisors that a prior knee injury made it impossible for him to do the job. He says that’s when he was forced to retire.
