Cable T-V’s Discovery Health Channel will feature the expertise of a surgical team from the University of Iowa tonight. The surgery is called a belt lipectomy and it’s for people who’ve lost a lot of weight and for whom a “tummy tuck” isn’t effective. U-of-I surgery professor Dr. Albert Cram is among only a few doctors in the nation who do the procedure. It removes excess tissue all the way around the body’s midsection, like taking off a spare tire and connecting the upper and lower sections to improve the body’s contour. Dr. Cram says the surgery takes a large medical staff and a long time, usually about six hours as the patient has to be moved twice. The program called “Skin Deep” is scheduled to air at 8 P-M. The Discovery Health Channel is scheduled to rerun tonight’s program at 11 P-M Saturday and at 2 P-M Sunday.
