The state’s boy’s soccer coaches will vote in September on moving their games from the spring to the fall. Iowa High School Athletic Association executive director Bernie Saggau says that’s what had originally been planned. He says the original plan was to play the games in the fall, but some coaches wanted a vote on the issue, and that vote was in favor of a spring season. Saggau feels fall soccer makes more sense. He says there are so many other events happening in the spring, and there would be fewer conflicts if the sport were played in the fall. The incoming president of the Iowa Football Coaches Association is worried fall soccer would take away some of the athletes who play football. Saggau admits there’s crossover between the two sports. He says though, there’s already crossover among athletes between baseball and soccer, and he doesn’t think it would be any worse between soccer and football. The coaches will vote on the issue in September.
