Earlier this week, we heard about the Brooklyn, Iowa Bridge being put up for sale on E-Bay. Now, another historic bridge is being sold to make way for a new span in eastern Iowa’s Jones County. The Hale bridge over the Wapsipinicon River is being sold by the county for one-dollar to anyone who’ll haul it away and preserve it. The three-span iron bridge is nearly 300-feet long and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1879 and was closed to traffic in 1997 due to structural deterioration. There are only 19 such bridges in Iowa with four of them in Jones County. If no one buys it, it’ll be demolished.
