Hy-Vee Food stores in Iowa sold some of the ground beef that’s part of a national recall. The beef was sold between May 27th and June 10th. Dr. Lon Kightlinger is state epidemiologist in South Dakota, where the contaminated beef sickened at least four residents, including a small child, but Kightlinger says that child is now home from the hospital. Dr. Kightlinger says the threat of E-coli contamination can be eliminated if the meat is cooked thoroughly. Dr. Kightlinger says it’s important to use good hygiene in the kitchen, too, and clean anything that comes into contact with the meat or its juices. There have been no reports of illness in Iowa linked to the contaminated meat.
