Davenport police have issued a list of five names, men they want to question as material witnesses in the fatal shooting of a young girl at a family gathering in the Quad Cities Sunday. Captain David Struckman says officers are familiar with the parties involved in the apparent drive-by. He says police “have a history” of two unrelated groups who can’t get along and their ongoing feud resulted in the shooting. The victim’s been identified as 9-year-old Deanna Shipp of Madison, Wisconsin. Struckman says she was not the target of the shooting.She was in a backyard, two cars drove by and many gunshots were fired, the girl was hit and died at a local hospital. Captain Struckman says one man who’d been at the family gathering was arrested, for attempting his own revenge shooting. He says the man armed himself and went to a neighborhood where he thought he’d find the suspects, fired some shots himself and was arrested. Struckman says it was a confusing scene, with two cars apparently driving past the home where the girl was with family members in the back yard. Some other vehicles were hit but the girl was the only person shot, and she was an innocent victim. Five men are named in material-witness warrants, and Struckmen says at this time police just want to question them. The men named in the warrant are 21-year-old Demont Moore, 17-year-old Morris Brown, 20-year-old Montex Lewis, 19-year-old Jamail Jalloh, and 16-year-old Merril Howard. 37-year-old Albert Miller of Davenport was arrested and charged with going armed with intent, after police say he attempted retaliation for the incident.
