The Republican candidate for Governor says, if elected, he’ll put his personal investments in a “blind trust” to avoid conflicts of interest. Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack has accused Republican rival Doug Gross of having a conflict as Gross’ wife has a two-percent interest in a Dubuque resort linked to a state-funded “Vision Iowa” project. Gross says if he becomes Governor, he’ll put all of his holdings in a “blind trust” and have them managed by an independent entity to ensure his objectivity wouldn’t be questioned. Gross has done legal work for Dubuque gambling interests, and has said it wouldn’t have been appropriate for him to invest in the Dubuque hotel, but he says it’s o-k for his wife to do so.Gross, though, says if he becomes Governor, his wife’s investment in that Dubuque project will be placed in the “blind trust.”Gross says his wife deserves to make any investments she wants to make, but he would put that Dubuque investment in the blind trust to avoid any conflict questions.
