A national group formed to deal with the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church is organizing a chapter in eastern Iowa. Karma Wanamaker is one of the members of the “Voice of Faithful” group that’s seeking members in Dubuque. They want to reach out to people who do not feel they have a voice in the issue. Wanamaker says they want to be sure the issue remains open. She says they’re very interested in the makeup of the local review panel. Wanamaker says the panel is a place where everyone should have a voice. She says they would like to see one of the panel members be a victim, so the panel remains independent. Wanamaker was asked about those who view the organization as a threat to the Catholic Church. She says they look to the gospel, which says Jesus didn’t come to the earth to keep things as they were. She says Jesus came to earth to help the needy, poor and those without a voice. Wanamaker and her husband hope to get out the word on the group and hold more meetings in Dubuque.
