Iowa’s Homeland Security Advisor is on her way back to Iowa from a conference in Washington, D-C. Iowa Emergency Management director Ellen Gordon, who was named Homeland Security Advisor for the state back in September, was part of a group of 100 disaster experts gathered for an event with President Bush. The President’s pushing Congress to quickly pass legislation that’d establish a new federal Homeland Security Agency. Gordon was in on a meeting with Bush, Homeland Security director Tom Ridge, Attorney General John Ashcroft and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. On Monday, Gordon will be in Omaha where she’ll join officials from other Midwestern states to chart strategies for dealing with “agro-terrorism.” Gordon says it’s important for farm states to coordinate a plan of response should there be an attack on livestock, crops, or the food supply in general.
