A new survey shows Iowa again has the lowest automobile insurance rates in the country. Iowa Insurance Division spokesman Scott Kinney says there are a couple of things that make the rates cheaper in the Hawkeye State. He says a lower population and competitive insurance market help keep the costs down. Iowa’s population is aging, but Kinney doesn’t know if that impacts the cost of insurance. He says some companies do offer discount rates for drivers between the ages of 50 to 65. Iowa has a combined average premium of 557-dollars — up from 543-dollars last year. New Jersey has the highest average car insurance rates in the country –more than double Iowa’s at one-thousand-146 dollars. Kinney says you should take advantage of the competition in the state.Kinney says the Iowa Insurance Division can help you figure out how to get the best rate. You can call 877-955-1212 or surf to www.iid.state.id.us. The survey of rates was done by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
