A vote could come today in the Senate Ag Committee on an Iowan nominated to serve in the U-S-D-A. The vote on Marcus, Iowa farmer Tom Dorr has been held up over concerns about the finances of his family farm and comments he made which some say were racist. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, the democrat chair of the Ag Committee, says the committee discussed Dorr today. Harkin says members were called away to vote on another issue, and not enough returned to vote on the Dorr nomination. Harkin says they couldn’t get a quorum together as it looked like the Republicans boycotted the vote. Harkin says he hopes to get enough members of the committee together this afternoon to hold the vote.Dorr was nominated by President Bush to be undersecretary for rural development in the Ag Department.
