An Iowa senator’s concerned his whistleblower law may get watered down. Chuck Grassley co-authored a bill this year that gives new protection to whistleblowers, those brave and solitary souls who come forward to give facts about financial misdeeds in the corporations where they work. That kind of bravery is often rewarded with demotion or termination, so the bill is aimed at ensuring employers don’t retaliate against corporate whistleblowers. But after recent reports that the protection might be limited by the White House to those who report to Congress “in the course of an investigation,” Grassley and co-author Patrick Leahy have written to the president to clarify they intend to shield anyone who gives information to a committee or member of congress, whether it’s within a formal investigation or not.
