The championship games are set for tonight at the Girls State Softball tournament in Fort Dodge. In last night’s 3-A semifinal games, West Des Moines Dowling beat Cedar Rapids Jefferson one-to-zero, in eight innings to advance. North Scott beat Bettendorf six-to-one last night to advance to the title game. North Scott pitcher Anne Wylie improved her record to 31-and-0 for the season, pitching the first five innings of the game. North Scott is top-ranked. Dowling is ranked sixth.The Class 2-A championship game will feature fifth-ranked Independence and number 10 Clear Creek-Amana. Clear Creek-Amana beat Belmond-Klemme last night, five-to-one, to win the ticket to title game. Clear Creek-Amana’s Jackie Sorensen pitcher her second no-hitter of the tournament. Katie Ryan at second base fielded six groundouts to help preserve Sorensen’s no-hitter.Clear Creek-Amana coach Jim White says it was a hard fought game and says Belmond is a great team.White is amazed at the performance of Sorensen through the first two games of the tournament and says she’s been anxious to get back to the finals. Fifth-ranked Independence ended unranked Clear Lake’s run of downing rated opponents as the Mustangs scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to get the two-to-one win. Mikki Robinson socked the single up the middle that drove in the winning run. Independence coach Lyle Hosche says it was a great contest.Hosch’s team will face Clear Creek-Amana in the finals, he says they’re happy to face a great team in the final and says his team will battle.Tonight’s game will feature two top pitchers in the Mustangs’ Michelle Osterhaus and the Clippers’ Jackie Sorensen.
