Things will be a little less “taxing” this weekend in Iowa with the annual “sales tax” holiday. The two-day “sales tax” holiday begins today and runs through Saturday. It’s designed to give a break to parents doing back-to-school shopping. Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance spokesman Wayne Cooper says this is the third year for the holiday, and the tax-free items have remained the same each year. Most items of clothing and shoes that sell for under 100 bucks can be purchased tax-free. Cooper says anyone with questions on the holiday can get answers through the Revenue Department’s link at the State of Iowa’s website.Cooper says most retailers and Iowans seem to understand the holiday, but he does have one worry, as he says new retailers might not know about the tax holiday, as budget constraints forced the department to cut back on the notification material it sends out to retailers.
