From Sioux City to the Quad Cities, communities across Iowa are taking part in an anti-crime initiative tonight. If you know your neighbor’s names, their kids and share a meal together at a picnic table, you’ll be more likely to call them and call police if you see someone or something suspicious in their yard…and they’ll watch out for you. Des Moines police Sergeant Tony Knox says that’s the motive behind the 19th annual National Night Out Against Crime. Sergeant Knox says events like cookouts and ice cream socials are underway tonight in communities, small and large, all across the state and nation. Knox urges Iowans to leave their porch lights on tonight in a show of unity for the anti-crime effort.
