A Maryland woman’s recovering after getting the kidney of a Monticello youth killed in an A-T-V accident last month at the Jones County Fair. Hilary Rustin received the kidney from 18-year-old Jared Gassman, who died July 16 in an A-T-V racing event at the fair. Rustin is the daughter of New York Times columnist James Rustin, Junior. She’d been waiting for eight years for a new kidney before she learned doctors at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics had found a possible match for her. Doctors said the kidney clinics had found a possible match for her. Doctors did the kidney transplant at University hospitals two days after Gassman’s death. Rustin was finally allowed to leave the hospital this week and her doctors say she’s expected to live a full and healthy life.
