The tiny town of West Point in far southeastern Iowa will go through several tons of Iowa’s top crop this weekend to mark the town’s 50th annual Sweet Corn Festival. Michelle Dyer is helping organize today’s events, which she says are focused on family fun. There’s a 5-K and 10-K walk/run, arts and crafts, horseshoe pitching, dancing, a barbeque chicken dinner with free sweet corn, a corn-on-the-cob eating contest, a tractor pull and the chosing of the Sweet Corn Queen. Dyer says there are more events tomorrow (Sunday).Since the sweet corn is free, Dyer says they’ll be gobbling down sixteen tons of it. To mark the festival’s 50th year, there is also a sweet corn museum that’ll be open through tomorrow in the Lee County town.
