U-S and British forces have bombed two Iraqi air defense sites in what could be a racheting-up of the campaign against Saddam Hussein. Republican Congressman Greg Ganske of Des Moines is among those who believe the President should ask Congress for a declaration of war — if Bush believes there should be a massive Iraq attack. Ganske says in a democracy, the public needs to be well-informed, and Bush needs to outline the case for Congress, like his father did before the Gulf War. Ganske, though, isn’t ready to say he’d vote to declare war on Iraq. Ganske says Bush needs to outline additional reasons for an attack, beyond today’s “status quo.”Ganske says Bush will have to make the case that Saddam Hussein poses a “significant, imminent danger” to the rest of the world, either by threatsto his neighbors or development of weapons of mass destruction.
