Iowa’s only democratic congressman is calling for the removal of the top administrator of the federal Medicare program. Representative Leonard Boswell says Tom Scully’s made insensitive comments about Iowa’s low Medicare reimbursement and should be dismissed. Boswell he doesn’t think Scully’s “engaged.”He says he found Scully almost flip about the situation, and says that’s not the right attitude to take with Iowa paying the same taxes and getting such an unfairly low reimbursement. Earlier this week, administrator Scully told the Des Moines Register that Iowa’s plan to sue the federal government over our lowest-in-the-nation reimbursement rate was “ridiculous.” Boswell says if Scully thinks that, he isn’t fit to head a federal agency. He says letting Scully keep his job would be absurd and irresponsible, to the millions of seniors on Medicare. Boswell says Scully doesn’t seem to see the need to do anything about the situation. Boswell says Scully should be replaced with a Medicare administrator who understands how important it is to fix the system that pays Iowa caregivers the lowest rates in the nation.
