For the first time in eight years, Iowa’s unemployment rate climbed to four-percent in July. The national jobless rate is nearly two points higher at just-under six-percent. Ann Waggoner, at Iowa Workforce Development, explains why the state’s jobless rate took a steep rise last month. She says the recession has lasted a while and it’s taking people longer to find employment and that’s backing up as new people become unemployed.Waggoner says the rate was up from three-point-six percent in June.Iowa and Virginia were tied for the nation’s eighth-lowest unemployment rate.
